South Africa
Home to the big 5.
We had the privilege of spending two weeks at Shamwari Private Game Park on the Eastern Cape, volunteering at their conservation foundation. Besides helping repair roads and bridge walls, monitor elephant and rhino, and create plant nurseries, we had the delight of meeting many of the inhabitants of a game park, both macro and micro.
Addo Elephant Park, one of the SANparks reserves proved to be fantatic as well. From there we travelled the Garden Route down the East coast to Cape Town. And as a finale, a few days in the Kalahari Transfrontier National Park.
If you've always thought about it - do it now. In eight years you may not see Rhino in the wild any longer. They will have been poached out.
