Peru
From the jungles of the Andes where the last holy place of the Tawantinsuyu (Inca as we know them), to the deserts where the Nazca tribes scored the desert with lines too large to see without flying over them - Peru is full of wonders. The original civilisation of the Incas stretched from Cuzco (navel of the earth) north through Ecuador, south to Chile and west to Argentina; a civilisation to rival the Roman Empire. Most of the civilisation is lost: the rapacious Spaniards melted down all the religious artifacts worshiping the Sun (gold) and the Moon (silver) to line their coffers and their churches. With guns and disease the European invaders destroyed everything; except Machu Picchu, which lay as a legend for four centuries, the jungle slowly covering this crowning glory. To this day, people believe there exists a treasure trove of Inca gold, taken off and hidden deep in the Andean Jungles.
